Dr.Alan Grant on Velociraptors

And you keep still because you think that maybe his visual acuity is based on movement like T-Rex - he'll lose you if you don't move. But no, not Velociraptor. You stare at him, and he just stares right back. And that's when the attack comes. Not from the front, but from the side, [makes 'whoshing' sound] from the other two 'raptors you didn't even know were there. Because Velociraptor's a pack hunter, you see, he uses coordinated attack patterns and he is out in force today. And he slashes at you with this... a six-inch retractable claw, like a razor, on the the middle toe. He doesn't bother to bite your jugular like a lion, say... no no. He slashes at you here... or here... or maybe across the belly, spilling your intestines. The point is... you are alive when they start to eat you. So you know... try to show a little respect"

Velociraptors Cricket Team

In BIM, the team ‘Velociraptors’ is synonymous with Cricket. What separates our team from the rest is the passion and love for the game of Cricket. We won the 3rd place in last year’s SRCT cricket tournament. That’s a little bit disappointing considering the big names in the team. We’ve also participated in Volleyball and Football tournaments even though none of us played those games before. Velociraptors’ unity is others’ envy. We’ve always prided in sticking to the same team for all tournaments. Once a raptor, always a raptor.

Captain: Saranyan

Also called as ‘paapa’, he is one of the best batsmen in BIM. He can play every shot in the book. He is a very reliable batsman with a good technique and a sharp cricketing brain. He leads the team by example, and has won a lot of girls’ hearts with his stylish fielding. He is also the coach of girls’ cricket team. He captains the team in all 3 games (cricket, volleyball & football).

Pravin R.B
‘Poor man’s Agarkar’ is a term that would best define him. A good bowler on his day and a handy batsman. If you see someone tirelessly bowling for hours together in the evening (at BIM), then it is him. He is an integral member in all 3 games.

Prasad:
A decent batsman and a useful bowler, Prasad has the ability to lift the team’s spirits with sudden bursts of brilliance in the cricket field. Captain’s trump card when he is used in short bursts.

Partha Majumder:
He is affectionately called as Mr.Cricket and a star for the Velociraptors. He plays all 3 games, though cricket is his forte. As a token of love, the Velociraptor’s dedicated their 3rd place in SRCT to Partho as he missed a few matches due to illness. He is the man to watch out for this year.

Yokesh: Shows flashes of brilliance. He once scored a half-century in 10 balls.

Navin Kumar : Rock solid batsman who idolizes Ricky Ponting. Master of off-side like Ganguly. Holds the dubious record of 6 continous ducks. But, he was the man in form for Velociraptors for SRCT '10

Venkadesh: An useful pace bowler who can also spin the ball prodigiously. If he masters the art of spin, the he could become a champ.

Vignesh: His batting is style personified. Useful spin bowler who is used as an attackin option by the captain.

Rajkumar: Has been with the team all through the first year. Proud of this guy because of his commitment and affection for the team.

Rakesh Singh: Stylish batsman who also bowls medium pace. Has been an integral part of the team in all 3 games.

Padmaselvan: An attacking fast bowler who wears his heart in his sleeve.

Varun Deepak: An useful allrounder, who sometimes annoys the captain with his carelessness.

Aravinth: More than his batting and bowling, its his comedy quotient that benefits the team.

Kranthi: Teams Wicket keeper and an attacking opening batman. Invents bizzare ways to get himself out.

Abhishek Mukherjee: An useful bowler known for his accurate medium pace bowling.

Eves : These girls deserve a special mention. They've been a pillar of support for our team.

Velociraptors - A brief history

It all began on a bright sunny day (July 2nd, 2009). Saranyan, Prasad and I, were destined to be close friends since that first day at BIM. Not a day passes without us conspiring to do something radically evil. This blog is a tribute to our team ‘Velociraptors’ which is a brand in itself.

How it all began:
The Marwar event in the 1st trimester marked a new chapter in our Velociraptors group. The name ‘Velociraptors’ was selected by us as our team name. The name Velociraptor is well known, thanks to the vicious group of dinosaurs in the movie Jurassic Park. The literal meaning for it is ‘swift seizer’. The Velociraptors are characterized by how they hunt as a group. So, we found it fit to be our team name, as we were very united as a team. Though we did not win the Marwar event, we had so much fun which made rest of the college sit up and take notice.


What are we upto.

As a team, we have uninhibited fun and are free-spirited. Of course, we study sometimes, as an afterthought. Velociraptors’ wicked sense of humour needs a special mention. Who can forget our Fakebimblogger, Prasad’s Kalaai’s, Birthday Videos etc. Notice some practical joke at BIM, and rest assured Velociraptors are behind it. Of course, we do it in good humour.

Know us better

Saranyan and Pravin – Spend most of their time playing cricket. Planning to shift their room to the middle of the cricket ground.

Rajkumar is never afraid to shake a leg. His dancing skills are legendary. He has been the subject for a lot of spoof videos. It’s a pity that he doesn’t realize it when the videos are taken.

Prasad: He is a one man army. Watch out for his one-liners and rhymes. Take away his rhyme book and he is vulnerable.

Navin (Paan paraag Ravi) – master of slapstick comedy. Master entertainer.

Preethi Balaa – (I’m risking my life here) Juggles her time between MBA and her job as a police constable.

Yokesh – His cap is his life.

Arun Kumar – Also called as supermodel, this guy is popular among girls. Or so he thinks.

Jaini Sreedevi – Strict officer.

Akila and Uma - "Ko Pa Se".

Sakthi Shobana - Well.. We haven't understood this kid yet.

We’ve had our share of difficult times, fights and difference in opinions. Those differences have only made us even closer. A sense of belonging to the Velociraptors group is what we pride ourselves in. The name ‘Velociraptors’ mean a lot to us. There has never been a dull moment at BIM for us, the Velociraptors.
